Based on fragments of models and carved images discovered inside the
temples, they were probably much taller than what we see today.
Traces of plaster and pigment suggest that the inside walls were
smoothed and painted red. They were highly decorated, as we can
see from the stones that still survive. Carvings of animals and
spirals in different designs are strong elements.
Inside the temple was cool and dim
in contrast to the fierce Maltese sunlight. At night the glow of
oil lamps and torches flickering inside would have looked amazing.
